Musician, writer, researcher, entrepreneur, poet: Sonya Mastick’s passions span a wide spectrum. Her twenty five plus years history of professional musicianship has taken her not only to every bar, club - and some arenas - in metro Detroit, but throughout all of North America. She has had a hand in every aspect of the music industry, from live gigs and studio work to promotions and booking; spending 14 years first working for Live Nation and then as a booking agent/promoter.
Sonya’s latest book is Prisoner to Patriot, a compelling nonfiction work that details the life of Nobuyuki Shimokochi, a Japanese American who travels the unlikely path from an U.S. internment camp prisoner to United States Army veteran. Sonya is also a published mental health care writer on the website, The Mighty.
These days, Sonya still finds herself using the skills that she gained as a promoter and writer to grow her social media marketing company, Rise Above the Din. With 6 years of social media marketing experience under her belt and an array of certifications in topics like SEO and branding she has been able to help a variety of companies find their online voice.
Sonya has been married for 22 years to her husband David and they’ve been Ferndale residents for 18 years.
