Currently reading: I just finished The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas, following teenage Starr Carter whose balance between her two worlds (the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends) is shattered when she witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. This was such a heartbreaking story, but incredibly beautiful and thought provoking. As a white woman trying to make sense of the world during the month Philando Castille’s case was resolved with no charge, it was eye-opening to see a similar story told from a young woman who realizes the power of her voice in the face of seemingly insurmountable problems facing her community. Currently watching: I have so many dramas lined up, but all I want lately is comedy. I’m re-watching and introducing my husband to the zany genius that is Broad City, and keeping up on Bob’s Burgers – featuring my mom role model, Linda Belcher, who is unapologetically herself and always looks on the bright side. Craziest thing on your Ultimate Life List? Ride The Nevis Swing in New Zealand, the world’s highest and most famous swing. Riders jump from a platform a mile high over a canyon, sailing across at 75 mph. Best piece of advice you ever received? Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others. What brought you to the SheHive? And what keeps you here? Whenever I am in the SheHive, my bitchy inner critic goes silent and is replaced with the intelligent, creative, and funny voices of this amazing community. They challenge and empower me, accept me for who I am, and see the potential in me that I am often too afraid to let loose. How do you want to be remembered? As the person who didn’t wait to say or do things. I tell those closest to me what they mean to me and why I love them. I also try to do at least one major “Life List” thing every year, pushing myself to do things that may seem scary or out of reach initially. #SHEisME Comments are closed.
