Kira believes the practices of creative writing and art making coupled with mindful self-care are the cornerstones of reclaiming authenticity. She helps make the world more compassionate and open by supporting and assisting women who want to connect to their authenticity yet struggle with feeling not good enough—no matter how much they do or succeed in life.
Kira is an Amherst Writers and Artist Affiliate certified to lead writing workshops in the AWA method as described in Writing Alone & With Others by Pat Schneider, Oxford University Press. This is a powerful writing method that encourages opening and witnessing of not only what is in your heart, but in the heart of others.
Kira’s commitment to cultivating an open heart spans over 25 years. She has learned to let go of messages and training she received from her culture and family, how to take care of herself and stop looking outside herself for others to take care of her, and most importantly, how her past is not her future.
She has a Bachelors of Fine Art in ceramics and printmaking from Wayne State University. When not writing, teaching or drawing, she works for a non-profit organization rebuilding neighborhoods in the Detroit area.
